Organizational Description

Project Background
- PlayMatters (2020-2026) is an education initiative funded by the LEGO Foundation. The program reimagines childhood for 800,000+ refugee and host-community children across Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Uganda – children whose education and social development has been affected by displacement and trauma. Building on children’s amazing resilience and a growing evidence base supporting Learning through Play methodologies, PlayMatters cultivates holistic learning for children ages 3-12+. PlayMatters is led by the International Rescue Committee and includes Plan International, War Child Holland, Innovations for Poverty Action, and the Behavioral Insights Team in partnership with the LEGO Foundation.
- With a primary focus on teacher professional development and technical assistance, the PM project is seeking for dynamic consultant to support with the PM content revision processes (ToTs, teachers and TCPD packages) through the review of evidence findings aligned with the PMC work plan activities for quality assurance support.
Scope of work
Major Responsibilities :
The PlayMatters Teaching and Learning Consultant will have three primary tasks :
Evidence Syntheses (3 days) – review evidence sources and synthesize the gaps identified from the roll-out and implementation of PM content packages to inform the content revision process in all 3 countries in collaboration with the RMEAL team.Content Finalization (42 days) – Co-revise PM content packages (TOT Facilitators Guides, Teacher Training Guides, TCPD Training Guides) in collaboration with Outcome 1 regional and country teams across the 3 countries.Technical Review and Quality Assurance Coordination (5 days) – Support the coordination and technical review of packages and tools for client use as relevant to content finalization ensuring quality measures. This may include checklists, handouts, tools, and guides in collaboration with the technical and RMEAL team.Deliverables :
Revised PM content packages (ToT facilitator guides, Teacher training guides, TCPD Training guides and accompanying workbooks / handouts) for Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Uganda.Revised tools (classroom observation, pre and post-test, FGD guides, QA checklist) for the 3 countriesReviewed Evidence synthesis findings from the 3 countries.Qualifications
Requirements : Education :
Current Masters or doctoral student in Education, Psychology, International Development, International Relations, Peace and Conflict Studies, Policy Studies, or other related Social Sciences-Related discipline.Demonstrated Skills and Competencies :
At least one year of experience working in education in low resource settings.Experience in curriculum development.Experience analyzing qualitative data using Dedoose, nVivo or other qualitative data analysis software is a plus;Experience analyzing quantitative data using SPSS, Stata, or other statistical analysis packages is a plus;Experience working in East Africa is a plus.Language Skills : Strong writing skills (in English) and significant writing experience
