Rock Springs Fish Farm is a pioneering commercial aquaculture enterprise located along the shores of Lake Victoria in Uganda’s Buikwe District. As a key player in the sector, the farm supplies the region with fingerlings from its commercial hatchery, which includes over 70 ponds, and produces high-quality table-size fish utilising more than 200 cages across two production sites.
We are excited to launch our 12-month Graduate Trainee Programme (GTP) to develop the next generation of aquaculture professionals in Uganda. This immersive, real-world programme offers hands-on experience in commercial aquaculture, covering everything from hatchery operations to grow-out management. Training will take place at Rock Springs Fish Farm on the shores of Lake Victoria and at its hatchery in Tororo.

Trainees will be introduced to key production principles in both hatchery and grow-out operations.Trainees will receive structured and targeted capacity development through a blend of online learning, tests, tutorials and on-site farm visits.The programme includes the following online modules : Hatchery Management, Basic Production Techniques, Environmental Management and Fish Health, Data Management, Production Analytics, Short- and Long-Term Production Planning, Production Reporting and Financial Implications of Key Aquaculture Principles.Online training runs alongside on-farm work, reinforcing learning through practical application.Throughout the programme, trainees will work with experienced professionals who will provide guidance, support, and feedback on their development and performance.The programme runs on a full-time basis, with an average work week, including some weekend work when required. The trainees will rotate through different departments or farm operations to gain a well-rounded experience.By the end of the programme, successful candidates will have gained practical experience in hatchery management, grow-out operations, data analysis, risk management, production forecasting, and financial planning.Participants will develop a production model and submit a written report integrating aquaculture planning, analysis, and financial considerations as their year-long assessment.This is a fixed-term programme for 12 months and is not extendable unless under a new contract.
