Responsibilities
Overseeing company operations
- Develop and implement strategic goals and objectives to grow the overall business,
- Ensuring compliance to all applicable regulatory and legal requirements,
- Develop a strong network within government agencies to support the business,
- Build robust working relationships with all project stakeholders (governments / regulators, communities, contractors, service providers, investors etc.).
- Oversee the set-up of operational and governance systems and monitor their effectiveness, identifying areas for improvement and overseeing changes as needed
- Representing the Shareholders within the project company’s management team / shareholder board / steering committee (as appropriate), providing gudance and mitigating risk in respect to the project company’s operations (including : HR, Finance, Tax / Fiscal filings, business permitting, HSES etc.)

Champion diversity, inclusion and climate initiatives within the project company : identifying opportunities to ‘do more’ without undermining the commerciality or effectiveness of the core infrastructure; monitoring the implementation of community and / or DI initiatives to ensure that promises are kept; supporting evaluation programmes and continuous improvementChampioning robust Health, Safety, Environmental and Social (HSES) practices : reviewing proposed HSES Management Systems and working with InfraCo Africa’s HSES Manager to ensure these are fit-for-purpose, implemented robustly and their effectiveness regularly reviewedRegularly reporting HSES metrics, escalating HSES incidents in a timely manner and (together with the HSES Manager) providing whatever support may be required to investigate serious accidents and put mitigating actions in placeBeing a thought-leader for a specific area of expertise
Reviewing and providing advice and guidance in respect to this area of expertise as neededContributing to or leading the development of new tools, frameworks or processes around this area of expertiseQualifications
Degree in Business Management ideally coupled with either legal / compliance or accounting qualifications / training is a must;Details of experience
Be fluent in Luganda and English;Have extensive experience of working in the African infrastructure sector particularly maritime transport;Have 5-10 years’ experience of working on construction projects and / or managing delivery of construction activities;Have 5 years’ experience of managing operational infrastructure / assets in Africa;Demonstrate experience in the management of HSES risks during construction and operations;Have experience of project / concession financed projects, preferably through construction or operational phases;Have credibly engaged with senior government stakeholders and communities within sub Saharan Africa, and have an established network across the private and public sector;Demonstrate personal integrity and professionalism
