TERMS OF REFERENCE : SAPA LEAD FACILITATOR
BACKGROUND
Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve (PUWR) is a vital conservation area located in the Karamoja region of eastern Uganda, supporting a wide diversity of life in Uganda’s most economically marginalized region. Conservation in Karamoja is challenging and must contribute to local development, employment, and the overall well-being of the people who live alongside PUWR. Dependence on PUWR’s resources is high and threatens the sustainable management of this landscape. Space for Giants (SFG), Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), and Karimojong Overland Safaris (KOS), in a novel co-management partnership, aim to transform this reserve through strategic interventions while contributing to meaningful livelihood opportunities.
To enhance management effectiveness and ensure equitable benefit sharing, SFG is undertaking a Social Assessment for Protected and Conserved Areas (SAPA) .
