General Manager - Transport

Our client company is s a pioneering distribution trading house of FMCG & beverage products in East Africa, operating since 1952.

Designation - General Manager - Transport

Location - Jinja, Uganda

Key Responsibilities:

• Fleet & Transport Operations: Manage the daily dispatch, maintenance, and routing of the transport fleet. Monitor telematics and vehicle utilization to reduce downtime and fuel consumption.
• Supply Chain Integration: Align transport schedules with procurement, warehousing, and sales to maintain a smooth flow of goods. Implement supply chain best practices to reduce bottlenecks and lead times.
• Financial Oversight: Hold complete P&L responsibility for the transport division. Develop departmental budgets, negotiate contracts with third-party logistics (3PL) providers, and approve high-value tenders.
• Risk & Compliance: Enforce local/international transport laws, driver regulations, and workplace safety guidelines.
• Stakeholder Relations: Negotiate contracts with shipping vendors, suppliers, and key corporate clients to optimize service levels (SLAs).
• Oversee Vehicle Maintenance: Overseeing and enforcing strict PM schedules, repair, and maintenance budget.
• Team Leadership: Recruit, train, and mentor staff, including drivers, mechanics, and logistics coordinators.

Desired Candidate: Graduate in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, and should have 15+ Years of Experience in transport, supply chain, or a related field.

Experience in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, and Zambia will be an added advantage.
